The Hebrew Editor package is intended mostly for Hebrew speaking users for creating and editing Hebrew/English LaTeX documents.

This package provides a text (terminal) based word processor (in the spirit of the good-old DOS days word processors) which is extreamly LaTeX (or rather LaXeT) oriented.

The documents are written using the LaXeT markap language, but the word processor takes care of the visualization of the written text by automatically parsing some of the LaXeT commands.

The editor also provides on-the-fly spell checking, multiple file editing, unlimited undo capability and much more.

This editor has been in beta cycle for a number of years, and used by graduate students in the Technion Israel Institute of Technology for writing their Master's thesis, composing tests and home assignments, and more.

Read the INSTALL file for installation instructions.

In order to fully enjoy this package you need to have latex installed with Hebrew.

One way of getting Hebrew support for LaTeX is through another project called LyX.

LyX now work on adding Hebrew support to their WYSIWYM word processor, but currently their Hebrew word processing support is not on par with Hebrew Editor.

LyX's site is at http://www.lyx.org

To install Hebrew latex support, download
http://www.math.tau.ac.il/~dekelts/lyx/heblatex.tar.gz
to /tmp

As root, change directory to /usr/share/texmf
# tar xzf /tmp/heblatex.tar.gz
# mktexlsr

For more info, see the on-line tutorial in the application (press F1).
