Subject: Re: TEI P4 Review

Lou,

Here are my comments on chapter 19, Critical Apparatus. Note that I was
using the PDF file that you sent to Tim Finney, which differed somewhat
from the online HTML file and from another PDF file distributed last
November on a CD-ROM. I indicate the page and lines from the top (t) or
bottom (b).

p. 436, l. 16t: P3 -> P4

p. 436, l. 22t: element classes -- should this be entity classes (cf.
next line)?

p. 436, ll. 26-27t: P3 -> P4
                   1994 -> 2001 [twice]
                   are the copyright holders the same, or is it the TEI Consortium?

p. 436, ll. 5-6b: same as previous

p. 437, l. 19b: app -- use special formatting to indicate an element
(this is done in the older PDF file that I have); this problem is
frequent throughout the chapter, though some elements are formatted in
bold with angle brackets, so I won't indicate any more of them. Let me
know if you want a complete list.

p. 437, ll. 1,3b: type, from -- use special formatting to indicate attributes

p. 438, ll. 1-2t: to, loc -- same as previous

p. 438, l. 4t: remove comma after "to"

p. 439, ll. 6-8, 10-12t: use special formatting to indicate attributes

p. 439, l. 10t: varseq -> varSeq
                add description: "Provides a number ..." (cf. TEI P3)

p. 439, l. 15t: add a comma after "e.g."

p. 439, l. 19t: add a comma after "for example"

p. 439, l. 4b: change "<!-" and "->" to "<!--" and "-->"; this is
consistent throughout chapter in this PDF version, so I won't indicate
any other occurrences

p. 440, l. 4t: line up the "<app>" tag with the "</app>" tag below

p. 440, l. 16t: add a comma after "e.g."

p. 441, l. 19t: varSeg -> varSeq

p. 443, l. 18t: witnesses or witnesses -> witness or witnesses

p. 443, ll. 21-25t: use special formatting to indicate attributes

p. 444, l. 6t: phenomena -> phenomenon

p. 444, l. 20b: reasons -> reason

p. 444, ll. 4,7b: Diet -> DIET

p. 445, l. 11t: Diet -> DIET

p. 445, ll. 28,30t: use special formatting to indicate attributes

p. 445, all lines with <witness> elements: omit 'included=""', since it
is unnecessary

p. 445, ll. 18-20b: change structure from "<witness ...>   </witness>"
to "<witness ... />"

p. 446, first paragraph: fix alignment

p. 446, l. 3t: &times -> &times;

p. 446, ll. 4-5, 10-11t: attribute "direct" in <q> shouldn't be
hyphenated across a line break

p. 446, l. 5t: 123. -> 13. [the reference is to the 13th century; if
it's an accurate quote, it should use <sic>!]

p. 446, ll. 16,20,40-42t: omit 'included=""', since it is unnecessary

p. 446, l. 23t: &times -> &times;

p. 448, l. 15t: double-end-point-attached -> double end-point attachment

p. 449, l. 1t: tei.2 -> TEI.2

p. 449, l. 25t: add "</l>" at end of line
                add "</div>" on next line

p. 449, l. 28t: tei.2 -> TEI.2

p. 449, ll. 32,42t: line up "<app>" with following "</app>"

p. 450, l. 3t: add comma after "for example"

p. 450, l. 5t: endpoint -> end-point [for consistency]

p. 450, l. 9t: add comma after "e.g."

p. 450, l. 16t: tei.2 -> TEI.2

p. 450, l. 28t: add "</l>" at end of line

p. 450, l. 29t: add "</div>" and "</body>" on following lines

p. 450, l. 31t: tei.2 -> TEI.2

p. 450, l. 33t: wbp.1 -> WBP.1
                a2 -> A2

p. 450, l. 16b: tei.2 -> TEI.2

p. 450, l. 11b: tei.Header -> teiHeader

p. 450, l. 1b: add "</l>" at end of line

p. 451, l. 1t: add "</l>" at end of line

p. 451, l. 4t: tei.2 -> TEI.2

p. 451, l. 12t: Thus -> Thus:

p. 451, l. 13t: wbp.1 -> WBP.1
                a2 -> A2

p. 451, l. 19t: add comma after "(Ellesmere)"

p. 451, ll. 20-29b: make all attribute values in from,to, & id upper
case to match previous discussion

p. 451, l. 25b: put comment (after "ywroght") on separate line

p. 452, l. 7t: tei.2 -> TEI.2
               put "<teiHeader>" on separate line

p. 452, l. 22t: add "</l>" at end of line

p. 453, l. 28t: line up "</app>" with previous "<app>"

p. 453, l. 19b: </> -> </expan>

Let me know if you'd like me to proof other chapters.
