The book Programming Ruby contains a reference section describing the
classes and modules built in to the Ruby 1.6.1 interpreter. These
sections were written using a set of high-level LaTeX macros. At the
time the book was published (October 2000), we also released a version
of this reference material as a set of HTML pages at

  http://www.rubycentral.com/ref

In February 2001, Addison Wesley Longman, the publishers and copyright
holders of the book, graciously agreed to release the book under an
Open Publication license.

As a first step, we're releasing the reference material in two forms:

- as a set of XML files, one for each class or module; and

- as a set of HTML pages that are generated from this XML.

The file COPYING contains the license under which this is all
distributed.

Our hope is that people will start using the XML files to
'Ruby-enable' various environments, such as IDEs and editors, as well
as repacking the information in different ways. It would be nice if
you could drop us an e-mail telling us how you're using the reference
so we can start compiling a list.
